Please be advised that the no-block zone rule referenced in Appendix I of the ‘ITF Rules of Beach Tennis’ will be tested and implemented in the ITF $0 & $2,500 in Carolina, Puerto Rico on 2-4 NOV 2018. Please contact our Tournament Director Patricia Díaz or Referee for further information.
The prohibited service return zone („prohibited zone“) is the area between the net and an imaginary line parallel to, and three (3.0) metres from, the net and extending indefinitely beyond the sidelines. The intersection of the imaginary line and each sideline will be clearly indicated by a maker placed on or immediately outside the sideline. If the prohibited zone is applied, the receiver(s) shall not touch any part of the court within the prohibited zone until the ball is in play.
This is a project led by the ITF Beach Tennis and also supported by the Beach Tennis Player Association, whose representatives are also taking part in the tournament. As Tournament Organizer I made the request to implement the rule which the ITF granted. The rule change is something the ITF is considering to make mandatory from 2019, so we recommend the players to embrace the rule and start familiarizing with that. The ITF has witnessed first-hand the service block technique in Cervia and Moscow. The ITF considers the technique against the good of the sport and its television appeal.
